Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center (SRFECC)

We take a look behind the scenes at Sacramento Regional Fire/EMS Communications Center (SRFECC), the third largest fire-dispatch center in the State of California. Spend a day in the life of fire dispatcher Joe Thuesen, and his coworkers, who within a year will be dispatched to around 140,000 incidents.

From brush fires and baby deliveries to heart-wrenching tales, the folks at the 911 fire dispatch communication center have heard and seen it all, and more importantly have kept their cool. This group of dedicated workers is able to multi-task at an unbelievable rate. Since 1987, they have saved 377 lives through dispatch alone, which includes administering CPR and over-the-phone births.

The SRFECC are represented by the Local 522 Firefighters Union and they provide fire protection and emergency medical service dispatching for nearly all of Sacramento County and parts of Placer County, covering over 1,000 square miles and serving over 1.4 million residents.
