The Voice of the Sacramento Kings: Gary Gerould

From a small town in Michigan to a courtside seat next to one of the NBA's hottest teams, Gary Gerould has been the "voice" of the Sacramento Kings for more than 18 years.

An only child born and raised in Midland Michigan, Gerould got his start with the town's local radio station. He had his first radio show at the age of 15, which consisted of a 15-minute stint that ran from 10:15 - 10:30 in the evening. But the moment his voice hit the air, Gerould knew his future would forever remain in broadcasting.

He attended Anderson University in Indiana but returned home during summer breaks to continue working with the radio station. After college he moved west to Chico, where he took a job working for KHSL Radio.

In 1965 this sports fanatic and racecar guru made way toward Sacramento where he started work with the KCRA sports department. Leaving the local network behind in the late 70's, Gerould raced toward bigger opportunities as a motor sports track announcer for NBC and ESPN. His love of race cars and race tracks had remained with him since his college days in Indiana, so it was only fitting that he head to the race pits where he could talk one on one with greats like Mario Andretti and Paul Newman.

Never losing his love of sports, Gary accepted an invitation to cover the 1988 Olympics in Korea, a experience he treasures to this day.

But it was when the Kansas City Kings became the Sacramento Kings that Gary's voice rocked the local air waves bringing home the stats, scores and play by play of Sacramento's newest team.

Now, almost 18 years later Gerould still has his courtside seat and brings the roars of Arco arena to everyone's radio dial. With a style that is honest, informed and sincere Gary Gerould's broadcasts are listened to and respected by many . . . including the players.

You can hear Gary's play by play of all the KINGS games on SPORTS 1140 KHTK.
