Cinderella's Closet/SAFE

For approximately 15,000 students in the Sacramento Area, the idea of participating in many high school activities is a pipe dream. The cost to buy a baseball glove or a cheerleading skirt is just too much money for these low-income teens.

Lisa Gregory, who went through financial hardship herself as a teenager, has created a way to help these underprivileged Sacramento high school students get involved. This Sacramento woman formed a non-profit organization, School Activities For Everyone, or SAFE. SAFE provides financial assistance to students that wish to participate in school sports or clubs -- but have little or no means to pay the expenses required.

In addition to SAFE, Gregory recently opened a boutique called "Cinderella's Closet. " Many girls in the Sacramento region avoid attending formal dances, because they are unable to afford the costs associated with going to a social event. Thanks to Gregory's boutique, teen girls can now select from an array of donated formal attire and accessories, free of charge.

In addition to hearing Gregory's amazing tale of hardship to success, Jennifer Fischer also visits Grant High School and meets some of the outstanding teenagers who've benefited from SAFE.
