Huong Lan and Pho Bac Hoa Viet

Local restaurant guru Mai Pham shows Pat McConahay the best, most authentic Vietnamese restaurants in our region. Mai Pham is aptly described as the leader in Vietnam's culinary chorus. As owner of the popular Lemon Grass Restaurant, author of several cookbooks, and a food columnist, she's certainly established herself as one of the region's top chefs. We asked her to show us where she likes to go in Sacramento for a taste of Vietnam. Our first stop was Huong Lan where we found out what a Vietnamese sandwich is. If a sandwich wasn't enough, we made another stop to Pho Bac Hoa Viet for a heaping bowl of soup-a soup that is more than a meal. In fact it could be several meals and a mainstay of the Vietnamese diet.
