Elk on Parade
"Elk
on Parade" is a joint effort between local artists and local
businesses to raise money for area charities and to raise awareness
of the arts in Sacramento and Elk Grove. Twenty-six unadorned
elk were paraded through downtown Sacramento in May, before being
individually sponsored by local businesses and institutions. Some
of the elk make a statement, some are just goofy, but each one
is unique. Well take you around town to see these artistic
creatures and well introduce you to one of the artists and
see how her elk was transformed into art.
The
elk will be on display from July until October 2002, when they'll
be auctioned off to raise money for five local charities: Cosumnes
River College Foundation, Elk Grove Community Services District,
County of Sacramento Department of Regional Parks, Recreation,
and Open Space, the Elk Grove Unified School District, and the
Mercy Foundation.)
