"The Gathering"
Bronze Sculpture Exhibit

On a sunny day in August a number of heavy crates arrived at The Sacramento Zoo; inside were the only acquisitions that don't require food, water, or even a keeper. Seven amazingly life-like bronze sculptures of a chimpanzee group emerged. From the alpha male to the matriarch, each bears expressions and postures that can be found in real-life chimpanzee society.

Nature artist Bart Walter crafted the chimpanzee sculptures based on his studies of one of Jane Goodall's troops. "My art evolves from a passion for all living things. I strive to capture the essence of a living being; to explore some kernel of truth that may have gone unnoticed and to depict an otherwise elusive moment in time," said Walter.
