Arts & Education

Discover a world of upcoming artists right here in the Central Valley. Join Jennifer Fischer as she visits two elementary schools and takes a look at the role of today's arts education.

Jennifer visits Leonardo Di Vinci Elementary School where artist Leslie Colby teaches second and third graders the art of watercolor.
This program is provided by Very
Special Arts Sacramento, a non-
profit group that hires professional
artists to work with underserved
disabled and non-disabled kids.

Then it's off to the after school program at Ethel Philips Elementary School. Jennifer meets local actor Kurt Johnson, who teaches improvisation and playwriting to kids of all ages. Johnson is just one of many professionals hired by the City of Sacramento's Recreation youth program designed to help kids build life skills such as self-esteem, communication, and social
interaction.
