Sacramento
Youth Hostel
Are
you looking to get away for the weekend but the cost of hotels and
B&Bs are just too much? How does staying in a historic building,
in a prime location with all the amenities of a hotel but at a fraction
of the cost sound? Well that's what you get if you stay in a hostel,
especially the Sacramento Hostel in downtown Sacramento.
This 1885 Victorian mansion was constructed by Llewellyn
Williams for only $16,000! Its location is prime for all visitors
as it is close to Amtrak, Greyhound, Old Sacramento, the State
Capitol, Sutter's Fort, the Indian Museum and much more. It has
over 20 rooms and occupies 80 beds and for only 18 dollars a night,
guests can get an at home atmosphere and a good night's sleep
while making friends from all over the world.
The
Sacramento Hostel has had quite adventure during its time on H
Street. The 350-ton building has been moved three times! The first
move occurring in 1906, when it was moved from its 10th and H
location to an adjoining lot. Then in 1994 it was moved clear
across the street into the city's motor pool parking lot. Then
finally in January of 2002, the house was moved for the last time
to its original location.
The Sacramento Hostel has its own parking lot, private
rooms, bike racks, an herb garden, a travel library and laundry
facilities. Tours of the mansion are also available.
