Writer Eva Rutland
"Chronicles" meets African-American Novelist Eva Rutland, author of "No Crystal Stair," a semi-autobiographical story that is the latest of 23 novels by Rutland. During the course of her long and fruitful career she has relied upon longhand, an old typewriter, and a tape cassette recorder-anything to get her thoughts on paper. Today, this totally blind octogenarian writes
via a voice synthesized computer
program where she is hard at work
on her 24th publication.

Glassblower Skip Huckaby
Forged in the white-hot flame of the acetylene torch, Skip Huckaby patiently melts and molds, stretches and shapes glass into creations that are as useful as they are unique. Skip is one of only three or four hundred scientific glassblowers in the world. At UC Davis, Skip works with chemistry and biology students and professors to design elaborate,
one of a kind glass beakers and
other complex apparatus for testing
chemicals and compounds to make
key discoveries that may someday
save lives.

Actor Edward James Olmos
Actor Edward James Olmos played in numerous film and television productions, but may be best known for his role as Lt. Martin Castillo in the 80's show "Miami Vice."
