Savoring the Past

Folsom Prison Museum
Built in 1878, Folsom Prison was one of the nation's first maximum-security prisons. With its heavily guarded walls and monstrous size, it now houses medium-security inmates. We sit down with John Fratis and Gordon Henry, children of correctional officers who grew up on the prison grounds. They take us into the Folsom Prison Museum, where they volunteer, to learn
about the prison's lurid legacy.

Lodi Cycle Bowl

The Lodi Cycle Bowl is the oldest continuously run dirt track facility for "motorcycles only" in California and the second oldest in the nation (behind Peoria, Illinois). Since 1954, the Lodi Cycle Club has been racing at this track. Historian Ralph Lee is a third generation motorcyclist who remembers the 1950s when people would ride their motorcycles from work straight
to the track.

Antique Clock Repair

Bob Setnik is on a mission to reunite families with their "timeless"treasures. With a store in Old Town Folsom, he is a master clock repairman specializing in antiques. We follow Bob's customer Rich Boyd and his father's antique clock. With Bob's skilled hands, a clock that had been silent for 40 years is brought back to life, providing accurate time and filling Rich's
house with melodic chimes
unheard for decades.

Santa Cruz Surfing
We catch a wave on a visit to the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum, where you can follow the evolution of hanging ten. Wall-to-wall surfboards decorate the inside while real surfing veteran docents tell you "chilling" stories of what it was like to surf before the invention of the wetsuit. Plus, just down the beach from the museum is Santa Cruz's world-class ocean view accommodations,
the West Coast Santa Cruz Hotel,
which is also the location of Club
Ed's Surfing School.

Fiddletown - Chew Kee Store
Settled by Missouri Immigrants in 1848, Fiddletown became a bustling boomtown during the Gold Rush. Chinese immigrant Dr. Yee Fung Cheung established a Chinese herbal shop in 1850. County officials unlocked the doors in 1965 to the shop and realized they had found a real time capsule. We return to the Fiddletown Herb Shop to take a stroll back in history.
