African
Americans in the Valley
St. Hope Update

started by NBA star and Sacramento native Kevin Johnson. One of
St. Hope's biggest challenges has been turning around troubled
Sacramento High School. In this update, Mike Sanford says while
the transition had a few bumps, overall there've been hopeful
signs and happy students.

The Sacramento Observer
Most of us think of the major events in America's
civil rights movement as taking place in the south or back east.
But there were important moments right here in the Valley
progress
enabled by the power of the written word, and the remembrance
of things past. Since 1962 The Sacramento Observer has been serving
its readers and cementing its reputation as one of the country's
leading African American newspapers.
