Surprising
Stockton
Wine and Roses
It's sandwiched between a housing development and a strip mall
on a busy corner in Lodi--an offbeat location for this establishment--a
place that for 100 years was a stopping point for travelers on
the way to the capital.
For the past 15 years, this landmark oasis has been the Wine and
Roses Country Inn. But it's a lot more than a bed and breakfast.
It's a fine restaurant that's really taken off in the last year.
The upscale menu is created by Chef de Cuisine John Hitchcock.
The Stockton native is a graduate of the prestigious Culinary
Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.

Lodi Cycle Bowl
The Lodi Cycle Club received its American Motorcycle
Association (AMA) Charter in November of 1937 but didn't start
racing until 1939. However, the wheels of their motorcycles didn't
roll onto the dirt track of the Lodi Cycle Bowl until 1954 where
they have been racing continuously ever since. The Lodi Cycle
Bowl is the oldest dirt continuously run dirt track facility for
"motorcycles only" in California and the second oldest
in the nation (behind Peoria Illinois).
Join Pam Turse as she talks with

Bowl alive.

Modesto Garden Club
Founded in February 1924, by Modesto Junior College Professor
Federick Knorr, the Modesto Garden Club has since blossomed into
the largest garden club in the United States. Professor Knorr
is a naturalist and conservationist, devoted to preserving the
green in Modesto. Today that same objective is in full bloom with
776 members. The Modesto Garden Club began with replanting the
grounds around Modesto Junior College, but has since spread its
"roots" to include planting of the Community Christmas
Tree, the Magnolia Trees in Graceada Park, and has even organized
the Modesto Camellia Festival, which is highly recognized in Camellia
circles throughout the nation.

Where Have All the Gnomes Gone?
Invented in the 1870s in eastern Germany, the gnome was
a popular garden fixture. The small, magical beings dwell in the
earth and protect its riches. But the gnome has fallen out of
favor with the gardening community. Could the once popular ceramic
statue be facing extinction? Whats going to replace these
lovable, yet tacky, treasures? Join us as we explore the weird
and wonderful world of garden accessories.
