The Palms Playhouse

After 27 years, The Palms Playhouse in Davis, one of the Valley's most vibrant and unusual music venues, will close its doors. This clapboard barn filled with folding chairs has hosted artists as popular and diverse as Koko Taylor, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, and Ani DiFranco and developed an intensely loyal following. However, after holding off developers for the better part of a decade, the old barn has succumbed to demolition to make room for more housing in south Davis.

But the spirit of the Palms lives on. Join us for a bittersweet look at the Palms' closing night featuring Utah Phillips, the songwriter and storyteller who opened the club back in 1975. Then we follow the story to a grand opening event, as the Palms Playhouse is reborn as the Winters Opera House.
