Snowboarding is an activity that is growing fast among women. If you've never strapped on a snowboard, have no fear because the Just for Women snowboarding course offered at Squaw Valley, is just for you. The Squaw Valley Ski School offers snowboarding courses for the ladies, taught in an environment that is comfortable and encouraging. With patient and educated instructors, the Just for Women 3-day course can show you the basics, get you the right equipment, and have you riding the slopes the very first day. There is no pressure and you can move at your own pace working one-on-one with a certified snowboard instructor. Many of the ladies who take the course do it not only for the exercise, but to spend more time with their kids who are also learning how to snowboard. Working almost every muscle in your body snowboarding is a healthy way to get in shape.

Originally called the "snurfer," the snowboard was invented by a man named Sherman Poppen and first appeared on the slopes in 1965. The activity has since grown significantly in popularity and was finally approved as an Olympics event in 1998. Today snowboarders can be seen on almost every slope, terrain park, and chair lift throughout the country. This sport is not just for men and the young; women are starting to hit those slopes in a big way.
